Widener University is seeking an Engineering Technician- Electrical Engineering, who will be primarily responsible for supporting instructional and research laboratories, and outreach and recruitment activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(include but not limited to) :
Troubleshoot electrical and electronics systems.
Perform preventive or corrective maintenance on electrical/electronic systems or components.
Assemble and reassemble components and systems.
Fabricate components, such as housings, jigs, fittings, or fixtures, using metalworking machines.
Test performance of assemblies, using instruments such as oscilloscopes, electronic multi-meters, or bridges.
Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies, and service records.
Train students and staff to install, use and maintain systems or components.
Assist students in the design, configuration, or application of systems or components.
Update software applications on school-wide computer labs with guidance from IT staff.
Support engineering outreach and recruitment activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Education/Training and Experience Required):
Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, or related field, with 2 years of relevant experience; or associate degree in engineering technology with 5 years of relevant experience.
Able to build, install, program, test, repair and maintain electrical and electronics equipment and related systems.
Able to conduct tests and experiments consistent with safe operating protocols.
Experience working with microprocessors, programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, sensor or feedback systems, etc.
Knowledge of schematics, block diagrams, and electro/mechanical assembly drawings.
Able to prioritize work effectively and provide technical support to students, faculty and staff.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision on multiple tasks.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Willing to learn new systems and protocols.
Previous experience in engineering or science laboratories.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL WORK HOURS:
Usual office, laboratory and classroom conditions; evening and weekend work may be required; long periods of time utilizing computer; occasionally lift in excess of 30 lbs.
