The Captain of the Delaware Law School and Commonwealth Law School must oversee the performance of staff on assigned shifts and campuses. Ensure the safety and general well-being of all University community members; foster good community relations and provides professional service. Safeguards university property and enforce university policies and rules.
Duties and Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to)
Essent ial Duties
Oversee the safety and security of the Delaware Law School and Commonwealth Law School.
Provide first-line supervision of all subordinate personnel assigned to the Delaware Law School and Commonwealth Law School campuses which include, but is not limited to, Campus Safety Officers, Corporals/ Dispatchers, Sergeants, Lieutenants, van and shuttle drivers and student employees of the Campus Safety Department.
Performs supervisory duties including but not limited to ensuring that shifts are fully staffed, assessing the performance of staff, maintaining attendance/payroll records.
Acts as lead in campus safety investigations.
Ensures communication between senior administration and Campus Safety Officers.
Prepares reports accurately and objectively detailing incidents on campus. Reviews all reports submitted by subordinate staff to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Ensures reports of irregularities such as fire hazards, facilities malfunctions, physical altercations, accidents and criminal activities are documented for corrective action.
Allocation of department’s resources. Procure uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
Responsible for updating department documents and manuals.
Responsible for payroll and scheduling.
Interacts with local and state police officials.
Familiarity with the Clery Act, compliance, and submitting an Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report.
Instills decorum of honesty and professionalism within themselves and the employees assigned to them and adheres to the chain-of-command whenever practical.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed.
When called upon, responsible for conducting formal training classes for Security Officers and the community.
Handle other public safety operations issues as assigned by the Executive Director of Campus Safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Education/Training and Experience Required)
High School Diploma or equivalent
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a security related field.
A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Valid Driver’s License.
Must have the ability to interact professionally with the public.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
The ability to walk for extended periods of time.
The ability to walk up and down steps both inside and outside of buildings.
The ability to walk outdoors in your assigned area in all types of weather conditions.
The ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time both inside and outside of buildings.
The ability to lift objects weighing up to 35 lbs.
