Widener University is currently seeking a Staff Accountant to work with the Assistant Controller in support of the accounting operations of the University. This role provides financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports.
Duties and Responsibilities : (include but are not limited to)
Provides financial information to management by researching and analyzing data
Responsible for bank reconciliations, communicating bank information to appropriate departments, researching transactions, recording journal entries, and reconciling various g/l accounts (cash accounts, loans receivable, other receivables & payables, etc).
Exercising discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
Assist in preparing schedules, reconciliations and analyses for annual audits.
Preparation of financial statements, federal tax returns and state corporate tax returns for affiliates of the University
Financial statement preparation and analysis.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed
Secondary Responsibilities :
Assist in generating, printing and mailing annual 1098T’s
Reconcile P-Card on a monthly basis
Balance sheet variation analysis on a quarterly basis
Problem solving, data query, data extraction
Special projects as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Education, Training and Experience Required):
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
1-3 years relevant work experience
Strong interpersonal skills and be adept at multi-tasking
Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Proficient with Microsoft Excel including advanced functions
Experience in higher education and/or non-profit accounting
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
Must be able to routinely sit at desk or table and work on computer for long periods of time (2+ hours), have basic manual dexterity, lift less than 25 lbs., and be mobile between workstation and numerous campus buildings. Involves routine standing, walking, and climbing stairs and occasional bending, stooping and/or kneeling.
