Widener University is currently seeking an Admissions Specialist to assist the Assistant Dean and Executive Director of the Graduate, International, Compliance & Legal Studies (GICLS) department on the Widener University Delaware Law School Wilmington, DE campus. This role is responsible for all aspects of the application process for domestic and international undergraduate legal studies and graduate law programs.

Duties and Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to)

Essential Duties:

Admissions:

  • Coordinate all aspects of the application process from submission through decision. Including but not limited to the following:
    • Review applications and transcripts
    • Prepare and maintain files on each applicant
    • Follow up with applicants with incomplete application packages
    • Responsible for sending rejection/acceptance letters
    • Prepare and send accepted student information packages
  • Implement and manage the Slate admissions portal
  • Communicate with students in all aspects of registration,
  • Confirm online accepted students’ completion of online Orientation and acknowledge of Student Handbook for online programs.  Print acknowledgements for student files.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating accepted students’ on-campus Orientations for both graduate law and undergraduate legal studies seated programs.
  • Maintain file notes and email communications with students regarding general inquiries regarding the admissions and starting process.
  • Update drafts of various correspondence to accepted students. (i.e. welcome letter, accepted student information form, Westlaw and library registration)
  • Act as liaison to campus services department regarding campus housing needs for new students.
  • Monitor international accepted applicants’ reports, and frequently communicates with accepted applicants regarding travel documents and on campus housing.
  • Prepare and disseminate regular student newsletters and surveys
  • Detail oriented, self-directed, and possess the ability to handle multiple assignments in a professional and efficient manner
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Student Events:

  • Assist student services coordinator as needed with the planning and implementation of events such as orientation, student activities, student social gatherings, student excursions, employer presentations, student/alumni events, seminars/workshops, mentoring program, employer office visits, career-related events, etc.   
  • Collaborate with team in developing marketing plans for events, aligning the educational and professional goals, and meeting the attendance/engagement goals of the Department
  • Maintain records for reporting attendance

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Interact with various university departments for daily operations.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Education/Training and Experience Required)

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a student service oriented environment or any combination of experience, training or education, which provides the necessary skills, ability and knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the university
  • Valid driver's license
  • Superior interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Skype, Zoom and other interface
  • Detail oriented, self-directed, and possess the ability to handle multiple assignments in a professional and efficient manner
  • Proficient in planning, organizing and delivering a wide variety of student events

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of SLATE CRM
  • Proficient in planning, organizing and delivering a wide variety of student events
  • Ability to think through a problem and explore potential solutions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL WORK HOURS: 

  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends 
  • Must be able to routinely sit at desk or table and work on computer for long periods of time (2+ hours), have basic manual dexterity, lift less than 25 lbs., and be mobile between workstation and numerous campus buildings.  Involves routine standing, walking, and climbing stairs and occasional bending, stooping and/or kneeling.
