Widener University is currently seeking a part-time Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach. This is a part-time, 20-25 hours per week, 6-month position, which reports to the Athletic Director. The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the golf programs including, but not limited to: recruitment/retention, campus integration, supervising an effective staff of assistant coaches, budget management and supporting student-athlete success in accordance with department/college/MAC/NCAA rules and regulations. This appointment is non-benefits eligible, and is effective January 2021– June 2021.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to) :
Essential duties:
Direct Assistant Coaching in the overall planning and execution of the intercollegiate Men's and Women's Golf programs.
Recruit quality prospective student-athletes and ensure timely submission of their academic records for admissions.
Monitor academic progress and status of team members, implementing action plans through appropriate staff when needed.
Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NCAA and Conference regulations.
Coach team members individually and in groups while demonstrating sports techniques.
Develop and implement innovative game strategy and playing assignments.
Oversee the strength and conditioning programs for student athletes.
Promote the athletic program and specific sport through community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing.
Ensure adherence to all Association, Conference, and University rules by athletes and supporting staff at Widener University.
Secondary responsibilities:
Additional duties as needed determined by the Athletic Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required) :
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in a related field
Three years of coaching experience at the high school level or above
Valid driver’s license
A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept
Thorough knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student athletes.
Budgeting, organizational, and communication skills
Good sportsmanship
Strength in working with student athletes on and off the course.
Ability to develop character and fitness in the student athletes involved in the program.
Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups and administrators, faculty, staff and students.
Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
Preferred:
Master’s degree in a related field
Coaching experience at the collegiate level
Experience with the operation of a summer camp, alumni cultivation and fundraising
Demonstrated success in building a successful golf programs
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:
Coaching in outside areas, hot and cold weather, and exposure to elements such as rain, snow, dirt, fumes, and loud noises.
Ability to travel by motor vehicle for long, interstate trips.
The duties require moderate to active physical activity, handling of weights and objects weighing 25 to 50 pounds, and standing or walking more than four hours per day.
