Widener University is currently seeking an Accountant/Financial Analyst in the Administration & Finance department. This role reports to the Accounting Manager and provides support to various departments across campus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

Accountant

  • Responsible for oversight and reconciliation of the University’s treasury activity.  Communicates information to appropriate departments, researches transactions and variances, and records journal entries
  • Assist in preparing schedules, reconciliations and analysis for monthly and annual close.  Acts as subject matter expert for various financial statement line items.  Reconciles to sub ledger and provides explanation for variances
  • Preparation of various financial reports such as the daily cash on hand analysis, incoming wires, outgoing wires and others as needed
  • Preparation of regulatory reporting for the University and its affiliates
  • Identify, propose and collaborate to implement process improvements with the goal of streamlining routine activities 
  • Gather data for employer related tax reporting and compliance and file monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Monitor student club accounts
  • Assist in generating, printing and mailing annual 1098T’s
  • Reconcile P-Card on a monthly basis
  • Other job-related duties as assigned or directed

Essential duties:

Financial Analyst

  • Perform quarterly budget versus actual and actual versus actual statement of activities analysis
  • Analyze daily cash on hand reports for all accounts to determine if any action is necessary
  • Analyze employer and employee withholding tax liability accounts
  • Problem solving, data query, data extraction
  • Other job-related duties as assigned or directed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience  
  • Strong interpersonal skills and be adept at multi-tasking
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Proficient with Microsoft Excel including advanced functions 
  • Must possess excellent organization skills and the ability to work independently and within deadlines.

Preferred:

  • Experience in higher education and/or non-profit accounting

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS: 

  • This role may require periodic overtime as needed (quarterly and year-end closings etc.)
