Widener University is seeking an Assistant Director of the MSW Online Program in the Center for Social Work Education, which is a unit in the College of Health and Human Services. Reporting to the MSW Online Program Director and the Center Director, the Assistant Director is an administrative member of the Center for Social Work Education, working to support the overall efforts of the MSW Online Program in the Center for Social Work Education.

The Assistant Director of the MSW Online Program works under the supervision of the Director of the MSW Online Program to maintain a high quality academic experience for MSW students in the online program.  The position requires a high level of interpersonal skills, organization, detail-orientation, and multi-tasking abilities to organize and follow through on all administration activities. This position also requires creativity in order to support and enhance the MSW program and/or the overall mission of the Center, College and University. The Assistant Director will be responsible for student advisement and support in the Onine MSW Program.

In addition to the above COVID-19 statement, all employees, who do not already have an approved exemption, are also required to receive a booster dose no more than 7 days after you become eligible.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

  • Academic advising for all online MSW students
  • Overseeing processes for tracking and monitoring student progress related to student retention
  • Overseeing collection, analysis, and reporting of assessment data related to student retention
  • Supporting instructors in student issues and classroom management
  • Responding to academic and non-academic student issues
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures for student retention and termination
  • Developing and maintaining a vibrant online community engagement experience for students as part of the program’s implicit curriculum
  • Developing and maintaining resources and information related to social work licensure
  • Monitoring accreditation compliance
  • Supervising, training, and managing Student Services Coordinators through Wiley partnership
  • Overseeing monitoring and management of the New Student Orientation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • MSW from a CSWE-accredited institution and a minimum of two years post-MSW direct practice experience
  • At least two years of experience as a supervisor and/or administrator
  • Prior graduate teaching experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with online graduate education
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and correct command of English language grammar and usage are essential to succeed in this position.
  • Superior communications skills - verbal and written - including in-person one-on-one and in groups, on the telephone and in videoconferences, and electronically.
  • Experience with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population
  • The capacity to take initiative and leadership in developing student support initiatives in the Online MSW Program
  • Knowledge of the Council on Social Work Education’s Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with Zoom videoconferencing; ability to quickly master new software systems, including Colleague

Preferred:

  • Five years post-MSW direct practice experience
  • Experience in student advising and/or student success and retention
  • Experience working in higher education administration
  • Experience in data management

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS: 

  • Occasionally standing, walking, or climbing stairs. Ability to be mobile between workstations, various campus buildings, and all locations in the buildings. 
  • Some night and weekend work is occasionally required.
