Widener University is currently seeking to add an enthusiastic and engaging Instructional Technologist to our highly collaborative and innovative Teaching and Learning with Technology team. Reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning with Technology, this position serves as the primary resource to the Delaware Law School faculty and staff in supporting their use of teaching and learning technology in the classroom and other educational settings, including onsite and remote conferences and learning events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

  • Provide training and support for campus wide LMS (Canvas and TWEN), Microsoft Suite, and other teaching and learning technologies
  • Serve as instructional technology lead in communities of practice relating to teaching and learning technologies for the school 
  • Guide and support faculty with best practices in effective design and pedagogies in the development of Canvas courses, in collaboration with the instructional design team
  • Support the adoption and integration of the Canvas LMS and its integrated tools (Studio, Respondus, Turnitin, Poll Everywhere, Zoom, etc.) 
  • Plan and run workshops for groups interested in learning or further developing LMS (Canvas and TWEN) proficiency, productivity tool adoption, and pedagogical innovation
  • Work collaboratively with the Legal Information Center (LIC), the Law School Web Department, Information Technology Services Department (ITS), Media Services, and appropriate Deans 
  • In coordination with the Dean, faculty, ITS and LIC staff, help develop a master plan for technology use at the Delaware Law School
  • Keep abreast of trends and lead the way in the Law School’s use of technology in legal education, by researching, analyzing and evaluating new technologies for potential applications in instruction

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Support the Client Experience Team with classroom technology (including presentation and annotation software, online response systems, projection and display systems, video and audio recording systems) training and support
  • Source new solutions for existing problems as well as innovative ideas that meets the needs of faculty and students; recommend and implement solutions, and troubleshoot problems and issues related
  • Create and disseminate training materials to aid users in the use of supported technologies and promote its use
  • Troubleshoot problems related to the university’s LMS and other teaching and learning applications and systems, alongside vendors when applicable for support, enhancement requests, or issues
  • Prepare documentation of application updates for version control purposes and distribution to functional end-users
  • Review changes for impact on existing processes and address as needed
  • Communicate scheduled change and emergency communications to functional users

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a program directly related to the job functions (Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or similar)
  • One to three years of relevant full-time experience, in an education setting
  • Fluency in Microsoft 365
  • Experience leading workshops and training end-users effectively
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to successful completion
  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent oral and written communication  
  • Team player who can also work independently
  • A self-starter who is willing to assume a leadership role
  • Strong client experience mindset with the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and the public
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or similar 
  • Two or more years of experience in the Canvas LMS environment is highly preferred  
  • Analytical skills, with experience in data collection and interpretation for decision-making
  • Additional experience with the following educational tools: ExamSoft, video editing, HTML, AdaptiBar)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS: 

  • Ability to work at computer for long periods of time
  • Typical work environment with some ability to navigate campus buildings, walkways and common areas
  • This position will require some evening and weekend hours
