Widener University is currently seeking a Security Systems Administrator in the Office of Campus Safety. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Campus Safety – Technology & Campus Engagement, this role provides direct technical support to the day-to-day operations for all security technology including card access systems, cameras, emergency communication system, radio communications and fire alarm software including 500+ cameras and 400 card access readers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

  • Configures tests, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots day to day operations of Campus Safety-related technology systems such as a card access system, cameras, emergency communication system, radio communication, and fire alarm software.
  • Diagnose and fix technical issues
  • Work with vendors and to internal partners to ensure seamless coordination and delivery of security technology project processes to the university,
  • Daily monitoring and preventive maintenance of security technologies 
  • Assess, manage and resolve work orders to external security contractor for all issues reported to campus safety regarding security technology
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for basic technology issues for Campus Safety computer systems
  • Provide timely project updates to immediate supervisor as needed during project implementation.
  • Partner with Widener’s IT department to collaborate on technology expansion, development and implementation.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Campus Safety – Technology and Campus Engagement, represent the Office of Campus Safety at project meetings.
  • Immediately notify supervisor of all sensitive security issues raised during all security meetings and assist in conducting and tracking the results of status update meetings on all projects with the university's security contractor.
  • Diagnose and resolve access issues reported by community members in a timely manner
  • Executes facilities plans partnering with external security contractors to provide recommendations, guidance, and oversight in security technology matters.
  • Provide status updates within SchoolDude tracking software regarding status on access control.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Assist the Assistant Director in collecting statistical data, maintaining records and providing follow up for service requests.
  • Research and propose new technologies that can enhance safety or increase efficiency.
  • Analyze processes to ensure best in class security procedures on a continual basis.
  • Able to work other shifts when needed or required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • Associates Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Physical Security or a related field.
  • Three (3) + years working in IT or a security-technology related field. A combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Experience managing  day-to-day use and implementation of technology-related projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with the public.
  • Demonstrated competence with understanding the impact, sensitivity and confidentiality of security issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, be resourceful by utilizing all resources that are available to resolve issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in technology integration.
  • Valid driver’s License for work-related travel and evidence of insurability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred:

  • Bachler’s degree in related field or a combination of education and experience deemed appropriate
  • Experience or in-depth knowledge of camera technology
  • Plan, design and implementation of interior and exterior cameras spaces
  • Computer networking knowledge
  • Experience working with security software such as CCURE, Genetec and ARMS
  • Experience in higher education

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS: 

  • Ability to walk up and down steps both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to work at a computer viewing security video for long periods of time
  • Ability to move under and around furniture for installation of security equipment
