Widener University is currently seeking an Intake Specialist to work with Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, Inc. Reporting to Executive Director, this role provides support to the agency by taking all incoming requests for services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to) :
Essential duties:
Interviewing prospective clients by phone and email to become familiar with their cases
Conducting basic research to investigate whether prospective clients’ claims have merit
Evaluating prospective clients’ claims to determine whether the claims are within the agency’s priorities
Scheduling callbacks and intake times
Inputting new clients, filling out necessary paperwork and putting together initial case files
Entering client information into computer systems
Review intakes, especially those done by students. Ensuring students, clerks & volunteers are properly completing all necessary information before submitting to Executive Director.
Serve as a backup for the telephone system.
Secondary responsibilities:
Perform other related duties as may be requested by staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required) :
Required:
High School diploma or GED
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to manage confidential information and communication.
Ability to work empathetically with clients who are facing challenging situations.
Must be willing to travel within the New Castle County area as needed.
Sensitivity to the social and legal problems faced by families with low-incomes in Delaware including members of historically oppressed and marginalized groups.
Flexibility, including willingness to work in any of DVLS’s areas of practice as priorities may change based on clients’ needs or funding.
Commitment to improving the lives of families with low-incomes in Delaware.
