Widener University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the School of Business Administration, specializing in Event Management. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting research, and contributing to service activities within the department, college, and community. Candidates must have a secondary teaching and research interests in Marketing, Management, Project Management, or a similarly related field.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

  • Teach a range of courses in event management, including but not limited to event planning, event marketing, event risk management, and special event production.
  • Develop and deliver innovative and engaging course content that meets the needs of diverse learners.
  • Teach additional courses in marketing, sports marketing or sports management, management, project management, or a related field as needed.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Conduct high-quality research in the field of event management and in secondary areas such as marketing, management, or project management, leading to publications in reputable academic journals.
  • Seek external funding through grants and partnerships to support research initiatives.
  • Participate in curriculum development and assessment to ensure the program remains current and relevant.
  • Engage in service activities within the school, university, community, and profession, including committee work and outreach efforts.
  • Collaborate with industry professionals and organizations to enhance the academic and experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements to continuously improve teaching and research.

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or directed.
  • Participate in school-related recruiting and retention activities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Event Management, Hospitality Management, Tourism Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Management, Project Management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Evidence of an active research agenda with a focus on event management and secondary areas such as marketing, sports marketing or sports management, management, project management, or a related field, including publications and presentations.
  • Ability to secure external funding for research and program development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse academic community.
  • Experience with online and hybrid teaching modalities is preferred.
  • Professional experience in the event management industry is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS: 

  • May be required to work some evenings and weekends.
