Widener University is currently seeking an Assistant Dean in the College of Arts & Sciences. Reporting to the Dean, this role provides support to the College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

  • Recruitment. Assist with coordinating the College of Arts & Sciences efforts to recruit new students.  This includes serving as the liaison for Pride Experience Days, Admitted Students Days and other events.  Other duties may include outreach efforts to prospective students, including transfer students, and supporting yield efforts for accepted students.   Some of this outreach may involve social media posting and/or assisting with scheduling and supporting yield events and visiting community colleges or holding virtual information sessions. 
  • Onboarding of new students.  Work closely with the Associate Deans and Chairs (if applicable) to support the pre-registration of incoming students and serve as a point of contact for questions during the summer.
  • Advising and Retention.  Serve as the primary support for students in need of additional advising based on progress reports and semester grades and follow up with students requesting transcripts for admission or transfer.  Duties include working within current systems or developing new systems to identify students struggling academically, completing outreach to students, holding meetings to develop academic improvement plans with appropriate follow up, and connecting students to other campus support services.

Secondary responsibilities:

    • Meeting and Event Support. Provide meeting support for the Dean as requested.  Additional duties will include planning College events that involve the faculty and staff.
    • Grant writing.  Work closely with the Dean and other staff to support grant writing efforts.  This may include drafting grant proposals for college-wide initiatives in close collaboration with the Grant’s office and other campus partners.  Monitor existing grant awards to provide an extra layer of support to remind faculty of upcoming deadlines, for example, renewals.  Coordinate grant writing workshops for faculty and staff in the College.
    • Community relations.  Support efforts by the Dean to create and build relationships. Duties may include working with alumni development to generate a possible list of members and creating databases of opportunities and working with industry or non-profit organizations to develop opportunities for our students in the areas of internships and future employment.
    • Other duties.  Carry out other duties as assigned by the Dean. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree, preferably in a field within the humanities, social sciences, or science. disciplines.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in different aspects of administration and business practices, preferably in higher education
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • A Ph.D. or Ed.D. may be substituted for two (2) years of professional experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS: 

  • Ability to work in an office setting using a computer
  • This position may be eligible for hybrid work schedule
