Widener University is currently seeking an IT Infrastructure Network Technician in LIS, IT Infrastructure Services. Reporting to the Director of IT Infrastructure Networking and Telecommunications, this role provides support to Widener University.
The IT Infrastructure Network Technician provides enterprise-wide network service where network includes voice, data, and video; evaluates and recommends solutions; plans and executes implementation; includes networking hardware and associated software with the objective of providing a robust, secure, and stable network infrastructure; maintains familiarity with standard security, privacy, communications, and telecommunications protocols across all three campuses.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):
Essential duties:
- Collaborate with the Network team members and Department Director to ensure network security and connectivity. Ensure efficiency, security, reliability, usability, and scalability of network equipment through proactive monitoring and automation.
- Provide end-user support for Tier-1 and Tier-2 level network issues based on business priorities.
- Assist in deploying/maintaining core network switches. Manage day-to-day administration of campus switches, routers, and firewall and their supporting applications. Independently deploy, configure, and update edge network switches.
- Deploy, maintain, and manage campus telephone system.
- Comprehensive knowledge of information security issues, techniques, auditing, logging, and familiarity with vulnerability scanning and management platforms.
- In-depth understanding of IP networking, networking protocols, and security-related technologies.
- Maintain hostname servers and their IP addresses which include DNS (domain named service) and DHCP (dynamics host configuration protocol). Maintain VLAN and IP address schemas.
- Ensure Network Access Control Services and Radius.
- Resolve escalations on an array of end-user telephony issues, and wireless and wired networking problems.
- Research and make recommendations to improve networking and telecommunications standards and processes.
- Configure/deploy/troubleshoot WAPs (wireless access points) and their controllers and management systems.
- Define and document network policies and procedures. Maintain VoIP phone system, hunt groups, and call routing; Other duties as assigned
Secondary responsibilities:
- Assist in maintaining remote network access appliances providing Virtual Private Networking connectivity.
- Assist in maintaining eFax Services for all three campus locations.
- Assists with the administration of critical network security and traffic shaping applications.
- Assist in supporting TV services and authentication across Chester Residence Halls and Common Shared Spaces.
- Provide network support for the Systems Administration and CX during their imaging of pc’s and mac’s for each academic semester.
- Performs a variety of other maintenance and installation activities as directed.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned or directed.
- Travel for routine and emergency maintenance of infrastructure equipment at all campus locations including Chester, Delaware, and Harrisburg.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Information Technology or 5+ years of IT experience with at least 2+ years network infrastructure experience.
- Extensive knowledge of how systems communicate with each other over the network, such as DNS, DHCP, Subnet Masking, and VLANs.
- Router, Switch, Security, and Firewall experience.
- Technical project planning, change management, and documentation skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills with the ability to troubleshoot effectively and express technical information clearly.
- Ability to triage and properly classify incidents and prioritize work efforts accordingly.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of teams.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:
- Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary or medium heavy work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk; must be able to restrain, lift and/or carry network equipment of varying weights.
- Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays
