Reporting to the Dean, School of Nursing, the Assistant Professor of Nursing is a 10-month, tenure-track position.  This position plays a pivotal role in advancing the University’s mission of excellence in nursing education, research, and practice. The successful candidate will contribute to graduate and undergraduate instruction, mentor students, engage in scholarly activities, and support the development of a diverse and inclusive academic environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

Instruction

  • Provide high-quality, student-centered teaching in graduate nursing programs, with occasional contributions to undergraduate courses as needed.

Innovate in Teaching & Learning

  • Design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based instructional strategies that promote student success and meet program learning outcomes.

Advance Scholarly Work

  • Maintain an active program of scholarship and research aligned with rank and tenure expectations.

Engage in Clinical Practice

  • Participate in clinical activities consistent with advanced practice certification to maintain professional competency and relevance.

Mentor and Advise Students

  • Support students through academic advising, career guidance, and professional development across all stages of their educational journey.

Guide Capstone and Dissertation Projects

  • Supervise Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) projects and/or PhD dissertations in areas of expertise.

Support Student Success Initiatives

  • Contribute to recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts to foster a thriving and inclusive student community.

Contribute to Service and Leadership

  • Actively participate in service to the School of Nursing, the university, and the broader healthcare and academic communities.

Champion Belonging and Inclusion

  • Promote a culture of equity, inclusion, and academic freedom, fostering a welcoming environment for all students and colleagues.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver continuing education programs.
  • Promote interprofessional education and collaborative learning experiences.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed to support departmental needs and align with the mission of the School of Nursing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or related field (PhD required for tenure-track appointment at Associate Professor rank).
  • Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Active RN license and eligibility for licensure in Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of full-time academic teaching experience, with a focus on graduate nursing education.

Preferred:

  • Current certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
  • Certification as a Nurse Educator (CNE).
  • Current appointment as Associate Professor at a comparable institution.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS: 

  • Evening teaching assignments may be required.
  • This position requires a commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and student success.
