Widener University is seeking a lab engineer in the School of Engineering. Reporting to the chairs of the biomedical and chemical engineering departments, this role supports instructional and research laboratories in biomedical and chemical engineering, and outreach and recruitment activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to) :
Essential duties:
Assemble, set up, calibrate and maintain instruments and supplies in chemical and biomedical engineering labs
Handle/store/preserve all types of chemicals, oversee safety protocols, and monitor waste and dispose of hazardous materials in chemical and biomedical engineering labs
Assist faculty and students in laboratory classes and to train, assist and supervise students on how to operate equipment.
Support engineering outreach and recruitment activities
Assist faculty and students on research projects and senior projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required) :
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with 2 years of relevant experience
Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision on multiple tasks
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Experience with 3D printers and CNC machines
Experience using Microsoft office suite and other technology tools
Preferred:
Master’s degree in engineering or related field
Previous experience in engineering or science laboratories
Experience with machine shop operations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:
May be required to work on weekends and evenings
Must be able to stand, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach, and climb ladders
Ability to lift objects weighing up to 35 lbs
Ability to work on computers
